At Health in Balance, we believe the best care starts with understanding your body at a deeper level. That’s why we offer Functional Lab Analysis using the advanced FHEval (Functional Health Evaluation) software, designed by Dr. J. Dunn, the originator of Wholistic Kinesiology and Wholistic Methylation, and Dr. Lynn Toohey of Nutri-West, a medically-based line of high-quality nutritional supplements.
FHEval allows our doctors to analyze:
Traditional Bloodwork – Labs like CBC panels, thyroid panels, hormone testing, and more are evaluated against both standard Western medical ranges (based on the entire population) and functional health ranges (based on averages from healthy individuals), giving a more precise view of optimal health.
Genetic Data – By reviewing 23andMe or Ancestry results, FHEval identifies genetic predispositions that may influence your health, symptoms, or risks.
Whether you already have labs, want more comprehensive testing, or are coming in for the first time to get to the root of your symptoms, our doctors are here to order, analyze, and interpret your labs so you can make informed, personalized decisions about your health.
Functional Lab Analysis goes beyond standard lab testing by integrating traditional lab results, functional ranges, and genetic data to provide a full picture of your body’s health. Rather than just identifying disease, this approach looks for underlying imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal irregularities, and genetic factors that may be contributing to your symptoms.
Using FHEval, our doctors can pinpoint areas of concern, tailor personalized treatment plans, and monitor progress over time—all designed to restore balance and improve long-term wellness.

Functional Lab Analysis evaluates your health using traditional bloodwork and genetic testing, interpreted through FHEval (Functional Health Evaluation) software. This approach looks beyond standard lab ranges to identify underlying imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, hormonal irregularities, and genetic predispositions that may be contributing to your symptoms.
Do I have to get lab testing as a patient?
No. Not every patient needs labs. Functional Lab Analysis is only recommended when our doctors determine it will provide valuable insights into your health. Being a patient at Health in Balance does not automatically require lab testing.
How are labs ordered and analyzed?
Our doctors can order traditional bloodwork through LabCorp and/or review your genetic data from 23andMe or Ancestry. Using FHEval, we compare your results to both Western medicine ranges and functional health ranges from healthy populations, giving a deeper, more precise understanding of your health.
Are lab tests covered by insurance?
In California, labs ordered directly by a chiropractor are generally not covered by insurance. To make testing more affordable, we partner with Professional Co-Op Services, allowing us to provide panels that would normally cost thousands for just a few hundred dollars. For an exact quote, our lab manager will discuss pricing. Alternatively, our doctors can provide a list of recommended tests that you can take to your primary care physician for potential coverage.
Is Functional Lab Analysis safe?
Yes. All testing uses standard, clinically accepted lab procedures. Blood draws are performed at LabCorp following safety protocols, and genetic testing is non-invasive, completed at home via a saliva kit.
