Neuropathy, often referred to as peripheral neuropathy, is a condition that occurs when the peripheral nerves are damaged, diminished, or not functioning properly. These nerves connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body, including muscles, skin, and organs. When they are impaired, patients may experience pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or even loss of coordination. Neuropathy can develop slowly over time or appear suddenly, depending on its cause.
